How to Flash Firmware and ZIPs Using OrangeFox Recovery
Learn how to flash ROMs, OTA packages, vendor images, and firmware ZIPs on Android devices using OrangeFox Recovery with clean partition wiping.
Pre-Flight Checklist
Complete ALL items before proceeding. Skipping any step increases the risk of bricking your device.
Guide Steps
Extract your downloaded OrangeFox zip file to locate the recovery.img file.
Place recovery.img (and keep the full OrangeFox .zip file handy) inside your ADB & Fastboot platform-tools folder.
Power off the phone. Hold Volume Down + Power until the Fastboot logo or screen appears.
Connect the phone to your PC via USB. In your terminal/command prompt, execute:
fastboot devicesA serial number must be returned. If blank, check your USB fastboot drivers.
Identify your device partitioning structure:
- Legacy / Dedicated Recovery Partition (A-only):
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img fastboot reboot recovery - A/B and Virtual A/B Devices (Recovery embedded in boot/vendor_boot):
fastboot boot recovery.imgThis temporarily boots OrangeFox into RAM without overwriting your current boot partition directly.
Once OrangeFox boots onto the device screen, transfer the full OrangeFox .zip package to internal storage or a microSD card (or use adb push / ADB Sideload).
In OrangeFox recovery: Tap Files, locate the OrangeFox ZIP, and swipe to flash.
The installer script automatically patches both recovery/boot slots (A and B) and injects the recovery ramdisk permanently.
OrangeFox will prompt for your lock screen PIN or pattern to decrypt user data storage.
Enter your credentials to allow OrangeFox to read and write to /data.
Congratulations! Flash Successful!
You've successfully completed all steps. Your device should now be running the new firmware. If it's booting normally — you're done! Check the troubleshooting section below if you encounter any issues.
