Huawei HiSuite Guide – Update or Restore EMUI/HarmonyOS Firmware via PC

Pre-Flight Checklist
Complete ALL items before proceeding. Skipping any step increases the risk of bricking your device.

Huawei / Honor device with unlocked bootloader (for firmware restore)For standard OTA updates, no unlock is needed. For manual firmware restore, bootloader unlock is required on most devices.

Guide Steps
Install HiSuite on your PC and launch it. Connect your Huawei or Honor device via USB.
On your phone, a prompt will appear asking you to allow HiSuite to connect — tap Allow and enter the verification code shown in HiSuite if prompted.
In HiSuite, click Backup from the main dashboard. Select the data types to back up (contacts, messages, photos, apps, etc.) and choose a destination folder on your PC.
Wait for the backup to complete before proceeding with any firmware operation.
For OTA Update:
Click Update in HiSuite. It will check Huawei's servers for available firmware for your connected device. If an update is found, click Update Now and follow the prompts.
For Manual Firmware Restore:
If your device is in a bootloop or you have a local firmware package, click Recover in HiSuite. Browse to your firmware .zip or .app package and select it.
HiSuite will push the firmware to your device. The device will display a progress bar during the installation. Do not disconnect the USB cable during this process.
The device will reboot one or more times during the update — this is normal. HiSuite will indicate when the process is complete.
After the device boots, verify the firmware version in Settings → About Phone → Build Number.
If you performed a firmware restore, reconnect to HiSuite, click Restore, and select your backup file to restore contacts, messages, and other data.

You've successfully completed all steps. Your device should now be running the new firmware. If it's booting normally — you're done! Check the troubleshooting section below if you encounter any issues.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Common errors and their solutions. Read this before asking for help.
Ensure USB debugging is enabled and you tapped Allow on the phone when prompted. Try reinstalling HiSuite (which reinstalls the HDB driver). Use a different USB cable and port. Some USB-C hubs can cause connection issues — connect directly to the PC.
OTA rollouts are region and carrier staged. If your device is not yet in the update wave, HiSuite will not show it. You can manually download the firmware from Huawei's firmware servers and use the Recover option instead.
No. HiSuite does not provide bootloader unlocking. Huawei officially stopped providing bootloader unlock codes in 2018. Third-party services exist but carry significant risk.
HiSuite works for firmware management regardless of Google Services availability. However, devices shipped without GMS (post-US trade restrictions) will not have Play Store access restored by firmware flashing via HiSuite.
