About the Xiaomi Pad 8
The Xiaomi Pad 8 (codename: yupei) is a Wi-Fi-only Android tablet released in September 2025, powered by the Qualcomm SM8735 Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (4nm) chipset. It ships with Android 16 and HyperOS 3, and is available in Global, China, EEA, India, and several other regional software branches — each with its own firmware package.
Firmware restoration on the Xiaomi Pad 8 requires an unlocked bootloader and is performed using Xiaomi's Mi Flash Tool with full Fastboot ROM (.tgz) packages. The Firmware Table and Prerequisites sections below explain how to identify your regional branch and prepare for the flash.
Which Flash Mode Should You Use?
Mi Flash Tool — Clean All
The primary stock restore method for the Xiaomi Pad 8. Writes every partition from the Fastboot ROM package in a single automated pass and wipes all user data. Requires an unlocked bootloader. Use this for bootloop repair, failed OTA recovery, or region correction.
Mi Flash Tool — Save User Data
Flashes system, boot, and vendor partitions while skipping userdata. Useful for repairing a corrupted system install without wiping personal files. Less reliable than Clean All for deep firmware corruption — if the tablet still bootloops after this, retry with Clean All.
EDL Mode (9008)
Emergency Deep Flash mode via Qualcomm's 9008 USB interface. Used when the tablet is hard-bricked and cannot enter Fastboot Mode. Requires a compatible Qualcomm EDL tool and a signed programmer file for the SM8735. Not for routine flashing.
What You Need Before Flashing
The Xiaomi Pad 8 requires an unlocked bootloader before Mi Flash Tool will accept firmware writes. Use Mi Unlock Tool with a linked Mi Account. Xiaomi enforces a mandatory waiting period — start this process at least 7 days before you plan to flash.
Download Mi Flash Tool v20.2.0 or newer from the official Xiaomi developer portal. Run the installer and reboot your PC to complete driver registration. Mi Flash Tool bundles its own fastboot binary — do not mix with a standalone ADB/fastboot installation.
Install the Xiaomi USB driver package before connecting the tablet in Fastboot Mode. After installation, verify the device appears in Windows Device Manager under "Android Bootloader Interface" or "Android Device". A missing or unsigned driver is the most common reason Mi Flash Tool fails to detect the tablet.
Download the full Fastboot ROM (.tgz) matching your regional branch (MIXM for Global, EUXM for Europe, CNXM for China). The firmware table below lists the three most common builds; the redirect link leads to the full list at FirmwareFile.uk. Extract the .tgz and then the inner .tar before opening Mi Flash Tool.
A sufficient charge prevents the tablet from powering off mid-flash. USB power delivery during Fastboot Mode is limited on the Xiaomi Pad 8, so charge the 9200mAh battery to at least 50% separately before starting. A power loss during partition writes can cause a soft brick.
A USB cable capable of data transfer (not charge-only) is required. The Xiaomi Pad 8's USB-C 3.2 port works best with a certified USB-C cable rated for data. Avoid adapters, hubs, and extension cables — connect directly to a USB port on your PC for a stable fastboot connection.

Finding the Firmware Package for SM8735
The Xiaomi Pad 8 firmware is distributed as a full fastboot image package — not a scatter file. After extracting the .tgz download (and the inner .tar), you will find an images/ folder with individual partition .img files alongside flash scripts. The key entry point for Mi Flash Tool is the script in the firmware root:
flash_all.sh / flash_all.bat
These scripts are inside the extracted fastboot image folder. After extracting the .tgz download and the inner .tar, look for flash_all.bat (Windows) or flash_all.sh (Linux/Mac) at the top level of the images/ directory. Do not open Mi Flash Tool from inside a compressed archive — fully extract to a local folder on your PC before loading the path.
Critical: The Xiaomi Pad 8 (yupei, model 25097RP43G/C/I) and the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro (25091RP04C) are different devices with different chipsets and incompatible firmware packages. Do not flash Pad 8 Pro firmware onto the Pad 8 or vice versa. Also confirm whether your unit is the Global (MIXM), EEA (EUXM), China (CNXM), or India (INXM) branch before downloading — the model number suffix (G = Global, C = China, I = India) is shown in Settings → About Tablet.

Xiaomi Pad 8 — Important Notes
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 in the Xiaomi Pad 8 integrates an X65 5G modem, but the tablet itself ships without any SIM slot — connectivity is Wi-Fi only (supporting Wi-Fi 7 / 802.11be on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). The USB-C port runs at USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds (5 Gbps), which matters when transferring the fastboot images to Mi Flash Tool or when using the accessory connector for Xiaomi's keyboard accessories. The 22.5W reverse wireless charging feature functions as a power bank pad for Qi-compatible earbuds, so disabling it in settings before a long flash session prevents the tablet from inadvertently acting as a charger while connected to a PC.' . "\n\n" .
'After a "Clean all" flash, the Xiaomi Pad 8 performs a first-boot Android runtime optimization pass that can take 5–8 minutes before the setup wizard appears — this is normal and longer than typical due to the 256 GB UFS partition table rebuild. If the device shows a "Verifying Android" screen with an orange lock icon after flashing, the bootloader is still unlocked and the system is working correctly; this is not an error. Re-locking the bootloader (fastboot flashing lock) after a stock restore will trip the device's anti-rollback counter and may prevent future downgrade flashing, so only re-lock if you no longer intend to flash custom software.
Common Errors on the Xiaomi Pad 8
Device not detected / Refresh shows no device
Mi Flash Tool cannot find the Xiaomi Pad 8 in Fastboot Mode. Cause: Xiaomi USB driver not installed, charge-only cable, USB hub interference, or device not fully in Fastboot Mode. Fix: Install the Xiaomi USB driver from the official portal, use a USB-C data cable, connect directly to a USB 2.0 port on your motherboard, and launch Mi Flash Tool as Administrator.
Flash failed — Wrong region or branch mismatch
The firmware package does not match the tablet's region lock. Cause: Flashing a CNXM build on a Global (MIXM) tablet, or mixing EEA/India branches. Fix: Confirm your current branch from Settings → About Tablet → OS version, then re-download the matching regional firmware from the firmware table below.
Bootloader is locked / Flash aborted by bootloader
Mi Flash Tool requires an unlocked bootloader. Cause: Bootloader was never unlocked, or a previous flash re-locked it. Fix: Unlock the bootloader using Mi Unlock Tool (Xiaomi account required, 7-day waiting period applies). The process cannot be bypassed through Mi Flash Tool alone — EDL mode is the only alternative for locked devices.
Insufficient permissions / Mi Account not authorised
The Mi Account linked to the tablet has not completed the 7-day unlock waiting period, or the device was not registered to an account before flashing was attempted. Fix: Ensure you have waited the full waiting period after enabling OEM Unlock and binding your account in Developer Options, then retry the unlock procedure via Mi Unlock Tool.
Stuck at Fastboot logo / Device bootloops after flash
A partition was not written correctly, or the wrong regional firmware was used. Fix: Re-enter Fastboot Mode, reopen Mi Flash Tool with the correct regional firmware folder, select "Clean all" (not "Save user data"), and flash again. If the device does not enter Fastboot Mode, it may need to be flashed via EDL (9008) mode using a compatible box or tool.
Xiaomi Pad 8 — Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Unlike MediaTek devices that use BROM, Xiaomi's fastboot flashing path requires the bootloader to be unlocked first via the official Mi Unlock Tool. An unlocked bootloader is a hard prerequisite for Mi Flash Tool. Xiaomi enforces a mandatory waiting period (typically 7 days) after registering your device to your Mi Account before the unlock is approved.
Choosing "Clean all" in Mi Flash Tool performs a complete factory wipe including all partitions. The "Save user data" option attempts to preserve personal data but is less reliable for deep repairs. Always back up before flashing regardless of the mode selected.
You should not. China and Global builds use different software branches (CNXM vs MIXM), different bootloader configurations, and different preinstalled app packages. Flashing China firmware on a Global device can cause features like Google Play, regional Wi-Fi certifications, and OTA updates to stop working correctly. Always match the firmware branch to your device's original region.
Go to Settings → About Tablet → All Specs → OS version. The build string contains the branch code in the last segment before the final letters — for example, WPZMIXM (Global), WPZEUXM (EEA), WPZCNXM (China), WPZINXM (India). Match this to the firmware download. If the tablet will not boot, check the box or purchase receipt for the model number: 25097RP43G is Global, 25097RP43C is China, 25097RP43I is India.
First verify the Xiaomi USB driver is correctly installed in Windows Device Manager (look for "Android" or "Qualcomm HS-USB" under Ports or Android Phone). Use a USB-C cable capable of data transfer — charge-only cables will not work. Try a USB 2.0 port directly on the motherboard rather than a hub or USB 3.0 port. Relaunch Mi Flash Tool as Administrator and click Refresh after connecting in Fastboot Mode.
